Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does Training Cost?
Most of our courses are taught in 4 hour segments, and are taught sequentially. This means that we will often times offer a beginner course in the morning followed by an intermediate course in the afternoon. Though it is not required, it is very common that students will participate in both trainings in a single day as we offer a discount when signing up for both courses.
Each four hour course is $140, which comes out to be $35 per hour. If you sign up for two courses at one time (either two participants in a single course or a single participant in two courses), you will receive a 20% discount as the total will be $225.
Please note that private group training is available. We require a minimum of 5 participants to create a private training event, and we will accomodate any training topics that you wish to cover. Please CONTACT US for more information.
(NOTE: The costs above are for tuition of the course, not including ammunition and firearm rentals if needed. Also, please be aware that some advanced or specialized training courses will have different equipment requirements and tuition amounts based on the length or topic of training.)
Do You Offer Court Ordered Safety Classes?
Sort of... We do have a course which specifically addresses the requirements of court ordered firearm safety classes. We offer a certificate of completion at the end of that course which can be used as proof of your successful participation in the course.
So why do we say "Sort of..."???
We don't offer this course on a regular basis. We will only offer this course when we get a registration list of 10 or more people that need the course. If you have waited until the very end of your probationary period to satisfy this requirement and need to have it completed immediately, then this will likely be very difficult to accomplish.
Instead, please add your name and information in THIS FORM, and we will keep you informed about when the next scheduled Georgia Firearm Safety Course will be scheduled.
Please note that the cost of tuition for this course is $140 and is non-refundable.
Do I Have to Already Own a Gun in Order to Participate?
NO! You are welcome to rent firearms and ammunition for us (additional fees apply) during the training. Furthermore, many times students enjoy this as it allows them to try out several different firearms prior to purchasing one.
Note that we do not sell firearms.
Do you have to have a Georgia Weapons License to Participate in Training?
NO! You are welcome to train with us even if you do not hold a Georgia Weapons License.
As a side note, Georgia is a shall issue state which means that your county has to issue you a Georgia Weapons License unless you have previous felonious convictions, violent crimes, temporary protective orders filed against you, etc. There is no legal requirement in Georgia to take a training course prior to obtaining a Georgia Weapons License.
When is the Next Class?
If you are interested in our course schedule, please check out our Events Calendar. If you have questions or would like to request private instruction, you can always Contact Us or sign up for our Event Information Newsletter.
Also, if you have a smartphone we strongly recommend that you download our mobile app. Our courses tend to fill up quickly. We will generally open up registration through the app 48 hours before we post the event publicly online, giving our app users a better chance at getting in a course of their choosing prior to the general public having access to it.
Where Are the Classes Taught at?
Our class locations vary depending on the topics being taught, the instructor teaching it, and the number of students. We teach primarily at Fair Weather Farms and occasionally at South River Gun Club. Interested in something closer to you? Contact Us and we can set something up. We are certainly willing to travel. We have a complete enclosed trailer that contains all of our gear and electrical needs. In short- if you can provide a safe backstop, then we can bring the range to you!
I Already Know How to Shoot. Do I Have to Start with Level 1?
Many of our students, especially men, grew up with firearms and already have a good understanding of the functions of the firearm. They understand how to align the sights, and they can hit small targets at decent distances. They don't have any formal training, but they are experienced in the sense that they can safely take their firearm to the range and enjoy a day of shooting without incident. Many can completely disassemble the firearm for cleaning and maintenance. With these students, we don't always require that they start with our Basic classes (NRA Basic Pistol or Level 1: Basic Fundamentals). If we have not personally shot with you in the past, we do require that you display a safe and competent working knowledge of your firearm prior to enrolling in an intermediate or advanced course. If you have completed training with other instructors in the past, please be sure to notify us of which training you have completed.
Sometimes we have potential students (again, mostly men) who don't want to sign up for a "basic" or "beginner" class because of some sort of ego conflict. To those people, we say this: manipulating a firearm is a skill. It's not one that you're born with, but rather one that you must work at. If you know that you don't have the proper skills to be in an intermediate or advanced level class- then please begin with either our basic courses or private instruction. Many times we can cover the skills developed in the 4 hour basic course in just 2 hours during a private lesson. I assure you- the skills that you will develop in our basic courses are the foundation of the systematic process that we use throughout all of our courses.
